Music Ministry

Christ Episcopal Church has a long-standing tradition of musical excellence.  Kenneth Thompson leads our parish worship as an outstanding organist.  He also directs our Chancel and Handbell Choirs.  Our focus is the rich hymnody of our Anglican tradition, while we also recognize the beauty of other traditional music, such as gospel music, as well as current folk offerings.  Throughout the year, Mr. Thompson hires very talented musicians and singers to augment our worship experience.  Our parish is blessed with utilizing excellent talent and music because we all believe as St. Augustine put it, "singing is praying twice."

Childrens Ministry

Children are welcome at all Christ Church worship services.  Nursery care and Children's Chapel are special options for children during worship.  Children's Chapel is an opportunity for the children to experience the "Liturgy of the Word" in an easy-to-understand story format.  Heather Newbern, our Children and Youth Formation Director, leads our Children's Chapel time and is offering a lectionary-based curriculum of learning.  She also lets the children play outside weather permitting.

Youth Ministry

Christ Church values our children and youth, and we have many options for our youth to be involved.  Heather Newbern organizes weekly EYC meetings at noon.  Parents bring lunch, and Heather engages the youth with books, moral lessons, and active debate of current issues.  Our youth participate in confirmation classes led by Fr. Chip Broadfoot.  Our youth also form our Acolyte team which performs vital ministry to our worship experience on Sundays and special feast occasions.  Christ Church also participates in mission, both local and international, and our youth are a primary participant in these activities.  We encourage our youth to participate in diocesan youth options, such as Fall Conference, Happening, New Beginnings, summer youth camps at beautiful Camp Trinity, the diocese's Episcopal Youth Council, and diocesan-wide Acolyte Festival in Nags Head, NC.
